(7/25/2012) Bayamon, Puerto Rico- The Puerto Rico Islanders are proud to announce the signing of three new players during the NASL transfer market. Defenders Christian Ibeagha, Paraskevas "Pari" Pantazopoulos and forward Christian Barreiro are set to join the Islanders in time for their next match July 28th in Bayamón against Minnesota Stars FC. Per team policy, terms of the contracts were not disclosed.
The Islanders recruited the trio in order to aid in the remainder of the 2012 season, which includes NASL and CONCACAF Champions League play. The Islanders will face El Salvador and MLS giants A.D. Isidro Metapán and LA Galaxy in group play.
Christian Ibeagha- (D) Four-year starter at Duke with MLS and European experience at only 22. Ibeagha is a powerful and athletic defender that will help sure up of the Islanders’ defense.
Paraskevas "Pari" Pantazopoulos- (D) Former Chicago Fire player who has also spent time playing professionally in Greece from 2007 to 2010. His former teams in Greece include ASIL Lysi, Zakynthos, Korinthos,and Asproprygos Enosis.
Christian Barreiro - (MF/F) Two first team All-Ivy honors during his time as a four-year starter at UPenn. Taken by the New York Red Bulls in the 2012 MLS supplemental draft.
The Islanders look forward to the arrival of the players who will be eligible to play in the next game at Bayamón Soccer Complex on July 28th against the Minnesota Stars.
